PREVENTIVE HEALTHCARE IN BULGARIA – BASIC CONCEPTS AND REGULATIONS, Galinka Pavlova
Abstract: Preventive healthcare activities are regulated and aim to prevent diseases before they occur, to diagnose illnesses early, and to reduce disease complications and premature deaths. This research seeks to explore the basic concepts and regulations in the country that govern preventive healthcare. The documentary method was used. Results: The Bulgarian laws that govern preventive healthcare reflect the main requirements of the European Health 2020 Strategy for providing free and equal access to healthcare (disease prevention and health promotion respectively) and universal coverage. Preventive healthcare in the country is regulated and is governed by a number of documents – laws and regulations. Conclusion: Prevention in EU countries still begins earlier, takes place more often and covers a more complete set of laboratory examinations and imaging studies. In this respect, the regulatory framework needs to be updated.
